2013 Jubilarians Plan Celebration
Eighteen Sylvania Franciscan Sisters will celebrate anniversaries of religious life in late June.  One Sister will celebrate 75 years, five 60 years, 11 will celebrate 50 years and one 25 years at Jubilee Liturgies in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on June 29 and 30.  (Posted 5.11.13)

Work on Sisters Living Quarters Begin
Maria Hall was built in 1967 as living quarters for Sylvania Franciscan Sisters living on the Motherhouse grounds.  Renovations to the three-story building, that include significant work to both the exterior and interior, began May 3 and are expected to take six months to complete.  (Posted 5-10-13)

Sister M. David Narog Celebrates Double Anniversaries
Sister David Narog, who entered the Sylvania Franciscans in 1932 from Minneapolis, Minnesota, recently celebrated her 95th birthday and her 75th anniversary as a Sister.  Family, friends and members of the congregation gathered in the Rosary Care Center dining room on April 29 to herald the two milestones for Sister David.  (Posted 5.9.13)

Sister Paula Blevins Honored in Steubenville for 40 Years of Religious Life
Sister Paula Blevins was recently honored by the Diocese of Steubenville for 40 years of religious life.  The annual event coordinated and sponsored by the Steubenville Diocese, singles out women religious during a day of acknowledgement and recollection.  Sister Paula is one of four Sylvania Franciscans who minister at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.  (Posted 4-30-13)

Sylvania Franciscans Honored as Environmental Heroes
In Honor of Earth Week, the Environmental Wellness Committee of the Sylvania Franciscan Village (the Sisters of St. Francis and their sponsored ministries of Lourdes University and Sylvania Franciscan Health) held the second annual Environmental Heroes luncheon on April 23, 2013.  The Sylvania Franciscans were honored as this year’s Environmental Heroes.  (Posted 4.26.13)

Sister Geraldine Nowak Attends Modern-Day Slavery Conference
Sylvania Franciscan Sister Geraldine Nowak recently attended a gathering of Catholic women religious who minister in eliminating human trafficking.   Twelve sisters from around the United States gathered in Washington, D.C. April 9-11, 2013 to discuss ways to collaborate and better work with survivors, educate the public and influence public policy to end human trafficking for labor and sex.  (Posted 4.22.13)

TV Story About Sisters in Non-Traditional Ministries

Lourdes University Appoints New President
David J. Livingston, PhD, Vice President for Advancement at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, has been appointed as the ninth President of Lourdes University.  He will join Lourdes, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, on July 1, 2013, with an inauguration planned for the fall. Year of Faith 2012-2013
