Recently I visited a patient, Sally, who lives with her daughter, Carol. Sally  was asleep and did not want to wake up for my visit.  Carol said to me, ” I guess this was a waste of your time.” I assured francis3Carol that it was not a waste of time since I got to see both her and Sally. The rest of the visit was with Carol providing a listening ear and support to her.

My visit with Carol is an example of how, to me, it is never a waste of time to be with someone and provide support to her/him.  The encounter does not have to be a long one. I think knowing someone cares can be of tremendous help to another.

Waste of time to be with someone and provide support? Never! Helpful to another? Absolutely! Jesus and Francis both were among people providing support to them. Are we not called to do the same in whatever way we can?
