Meet Sister M. Ricarda Witt, OSF

Date of Birth:

3/9/1924

Sr. M. Ricarda Witt
From:

Hamtramck, MI

First Profession:

1944

Ministries:

Sister’s ministry in education spanned 42 years. From 1943-1971, she taught grades 2-8 in OH, MN and MI. In 1966, while also teaching eighth grade, Sister served as Principal until 1974. For the next decade, she taught HS History and Social Studies in OH and MI. In 1985, Sister transitioned to Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit, ministering as buyer and receiver until 2002. Back at the Motherhouse, Sister served at the Franciscan Care Center as a receptionist before finding her new ministry helping to modernize the Congregational Archives over the next 16 years.

A warm memory: Sister was honored to serve as a sacristan in the old St. Anthony Hall chapel for many years, cherishing the well-loved sacred space with its simple wooden pews, warming radiators, low ceilings and the two rows of windows that opened and closed. When Queen of Peace Chapel opened, Sister served there for its first six months before she was sent out on mission.
