Sister Margaret Metro

1937-2020 Sister Margaret Metro (formerly Sister Rose Elizabeth), died at Rosary Care Center on December 24, 2020 after a long illness.  The daughter of George and Mary Metro entered the convent in Sylvania from Immaculate Conception Parish, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Two of her three sisters, Lucille (Sister Venard) and Mary (Sister Gregoria) preceded her entering the convent and also have preceded her in death.   She made her first profession of vows in 1955 and final profession in 1958.

Sister Margaret spent most of her 65 years in religious life in elementary education both as a teacher and a principal.  With a BA and MA in education from the University of Detroit, she was well prepared to teach in schools in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and New Mexico.  She taught in grades 2-8 and especially enjoyed teaching music to the students.  She had a lovely voice and played the guitar and used her musical talents, along with those of her two sisters, in teaching and at liturgies.  The trio was quite a treat when they did get together to perform songs and hymns at community meetings and celebrations.

Sister Margaret’s last ministry was that of prayer ministry at Rosary Care Center where she enjoyed the activities, especially those having to do with music, and where she prayed for the community, the church and the world.  She will be missed by her Sisters in community and the residents and staff at Rosary Care Center.

Due to the coronavirus precautions, services will be private for the Sisters only.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
