Meet Sister Joy Barker, OSF

Sr. M. Joy Barker
From:

Toledo, OH

First Profession:

1971

Ministries:

Sister’s ministry in education served children grades K-2 from 1967-1986 in OH, MI and MD. She transitioned to Pastoral Care, serving in several parishes in Ohio, including Holy Trinity Parish in Assumption, OH. Sister returned to the Motherhouse during those years to join the Formation Team from 1994- 1997. Sister completed her CPE studies in 2011, volunteered at FCI Milan Prison from 2000 – 2020 and retired from St. Clare Commons in 2021. Now, Sister begins her next chapter of Directed Retreat Ministry and Spiritual Direction.

Gratitude: Seeing the beauty of the earth and sensing the mystical beyond, savoring the shared moments we have together, being present during the transition from our earthly life – these are places where Sister finds her sacred ground. She quotes Meister Eckhart: “If the only prayer you ever say is “thank you,” that is enough.”
