The Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, along with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) join the world in praying for peace and share a deep concern about the state of our country.

Our hearts ached on January 6, 2021, as we watched the actions at our nation’s Capitol that threaten to destroy our government, our way of life, and further damage the bonds that unite us.

As followers of St. Francis and Jesus Christ, we are called to speak out against all forms of violence and disruption that seek to disregard our common values of justice and peace. We renew our commitment to the common good and pledge to take up the challenge to use our energy to heal our democracy and contribute to the work of building a more perfect union.

We call on our fellow citizens to offer each other understanding, kindness, patience, and tolerance. Let us remain open to change and compromise. Let us work together to build a nation that is united.

We encourage all people of goodwill to join us and we pray for our elected leaders to point the way.

May our pledge to each other and the common good restore peace and dignity to our politics and government.

Pace e Bene,

Sr. Mary Jon Wagner, Sr. Theresa Darga, Sr. Sharon Derivan, Sr. Rachel Nijakowski, Sr. Shannon Schrein
