Trauma 101: Introduction to Trauma and Trauma Informed Care

This training is designed to provide an overview and awareness of trauma and trauma-informed care for any member of the community who interacts with individuals and families that may have undergone a traumatic experience or trauma. This can include, but are not limited to, college students social workers, case managers, counselors, human services professionals, educators/administrators, the faith community, and employers. Trauma 101 focuses on understanding how trauma impacts the body and the brain, how people adapt to trauma, and what we can do as community members and helping professionals to support recovery and resilience. The information presented in this workshop is not intended to train individuals and groups on a specific type of intervention; however, is focused on how we can use a better understanding of trauma to be trauma informed. A focus on secondary traumatic stress and the importance of self-care is included. The information presented in this training is provided from current research as well as leading experts and organizations in the field such as the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.  Email dsweinhagen@sophia.center to register.
