How do we honor the dead?

One of my favorite authors is Esther de Waal. In one of her earlier publications entitled, “Lost in Wonder” she shares a poem by Ann Lewin that has become for me an invitation and a challenge to rejoice in the moment. . .to recognize each moment as an opportunity to see and experience the Love before us.
“You do not have to look for anything,
just Look.
You do not have to listen for specific sounds,
just Listen.
You do not have to accomplish anything,
just Be.
And in the Looking, and the Listening, and the Being, find ME.”
In this season of thanksgiving may each day be a new opportunity to take in the Love God holds before us as we look and listen and simply allow ourselves to be in the moment. To find the sacred we simply need to stop right where we are. As we behold the Love before us may our hearts sing out in praise:
Creator God, THANK YOU for the splendor of your creation, for our daily food, for our friends and families and community, for our senses to take in beauty, for the breath of Life within us, for all who hunger for justice, love and peace, for tears and laughter, even for life’s losses that cause us to realize what’s truly important in our lives. May we open ourselves to become “lost in wonder” as we cherish the gifts that surround us, share your blessings with our brothers and sisters, and experience joy of life in your Presence always with us. Amen.
LOVELY AND HELPFUL IDEA… PAYING ATTENTION TO THE WONDER IN OUR LIVES.
THANKS FOR THE REMINDER, BRENDA ROSE!
Sister Brenda Rose, thank you for this lovely reflection, so simple and so direct. We don’t always take the time to listen, to contemplate God and His goodness. Thank you for your incentive.
Thank you for your fine reflection, dear Brenda Rose. The words look, listen, and be are bring home to me the value of contemplation. Wishing you God’s tender blessings, Brigid
