Sister M. Olivia Jazwiecki died on September 1, 2017, at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.  Sister Olivia, the daughter of Michael and Mary Jazwiecki, entered the convent from St. Hedwig Parish in Toledo, Ohio in 1945.  She made her First Profession of religious vows in 1950 and Final Profession in 1953.

Sister Olivia spent the majority of her 67 years of religious life in ministry to elementary school students in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas.  She held B.A. and B.S.E. degrees from the former Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio and a M. Ed. in reading from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan.  In addition to teaching the regular classroom curriculum, Sister Olivia was a Reading Specialist. She also did substitute teaching and tutoring in her later years.  Sister served as a school secretary, worked in library services for a few years, and served as night manager at Bethany House, a domestic violence shelter in Toledo.  Her final days have been in Third Age Ministry where she prayed for the many needs of people in the Church, the Community and among her family and friends.

Those who knew Sister Olivia will remember her sense of humor, her love of children, her love for her religious community and her gracious hospitality.  When she was able she loved to travel, she liked to listen to classical music and enjoyed doing art projects.  In her later years, she enjoyed riding her electric “scooter” around the beautiful Motherhouse grounds. Her Sisters in Community, family members and friends will miss her.

There will be a Welcoming Service for Sister M. Olivia Jazwiecki in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6:00PM on Friday, September 8, 2017, followed by visitation until 8:00PM.  Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 9, 2017 beginning at 9:00AM until the funeral liturgy at 10:30AM.  Interment will be at Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
