Sister Cecile Denise Glodek died at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio on October 11, 2026. The daughter of Frank and Sophia Glodek was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 30, 1939.  She and her siblings attended school at Holy Cross Parish in Northeast Minneapolis.  She entered the convent in Sylvania, Ohio in 1954.  Her aunt, Sister M. Emilia, a Sylvania Franciscan Sister, was a big influence on Cecile’s decision to become a Sister.  She lived a dedicated and full life as a vowed religious Sister for 66 years, having professed her vows on August 10, 1960.

Sister’s life and ministry were varied, and her favorite experiences were working with children and the elderly as a nurse aide in hospitals and nursing homes.  She also did home care with the elderly for a few years.  Much of her ministry was done at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, where she worked as a nurse aide, therapy aide, restorative aide, and driver for the residents.  Over the years, she was also called upon to serve in hospitals in Ohio, Nebraska, and Texas.  She fondly recalled and shared a trip taken a few years ago on a Disney Cruise, where she enjoyed many delightful experiences with her family.

For the past several years, Sister Cecile resided at Rosary Care Center where she continued in ministry as one who prayed for the many needs of others, especially through the intercession of Our Lady of the Angels, to whom she had great devotion.  A dear friend of Sister Cecile, Sister Diana Lynn Eckel (herself of happy memory), in a tribute for Sister Cecile’s 60th Jubilee, wrote: “A thread that ran through Cecile’s life was a love of art, of beautiful colors, (yellow being her favorite) and being creative in putting a design together just to enjoy it.  She always enjoyed a good laugh and a happy heart. She is indeed a true gift of blessing.”

Sister Cecile will be dearly missed by her Sisters in community, her siblings Tom (Sandy) Glodek, Larry (Chris) Glodek and Judy (Terry) Doyle, her nieces and nephews, and her caregivers in Rosary Care Center.

The Welcome Service for Sister Cecile will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 6 pm in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Sylvania.  The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 10:30 am in the Chapel. The liturgy can be livestreamed here: https://video.ibm.com/channel/RvdadQRjbGk.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.  Arrangements by the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, Toledo, Ohio.
