The Earth Means the World to Me
May 9, 2018From 1968 on, change never stopped
May 24, 2018Sister Clara Kabick, (formerly Sister Zachary), died on May 20, 2018 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio a few months after her 93rd birthday. Sister Clara, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Kabick, came to the convent from St. Cunegunda Parish in Detroit, Michigan in 1949. She made her first profession of religious vows in 1952 and her final vows in 1955.
Sister Clara had a B.S. degree from Mercy College, Detroit, Michigan and for 20 years she taught in elementary schools in Minnesota, Ohio and Michigan. The remainder of her 66 years in religious life found her providing service to others in a variety of ministries by helping out in parishes, visiting the sick in hospitals, caring for her mother and doing a variety of tasks at the Motherhouse in Sylvania. Her final years were spent in prayer ministry at Rosary Care Center.
To know Sister Clara, known for most of her life as Sister Zach, was to know someone who genuinely cared for and about people. She loved to greet anyone who came to the Motherhouse campus with a smile and a warm welcome. They often met her as she cycled around the campus on her bike. One of the Sisters told her she was the refreshing breeze that enveloped the campus. She offered the sign of peace to as many people as she could reach when she attended the liturgy in Queen of Peace Chapel. The Sisters remember fondly that she called every Sister on her birthday to wish them a blessed day. Sister Clara served up a special brand of hospitality with a big hug and greeting, “Walk with the King!” She shared an infectious happiness and Franciscan Joy whenever she encountered someone familiar or a stranger. Everyone was welcome in her presence. She will be greatly missed by the Sisters in her community and her many friends as well as by the staff at Rosary Care Center who cared so lovingly for her in her last days.
There will be a Welcoming Service for Sister Clara in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 followed by visitation until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 beginning at 9:30 AM until the funeral liturgy at 4:30 PM. Interment will be in Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
