The landscape regarding COVID precautions is changing!  The Sisters of St. Francis’ goal is to maintain a safe environment for our Sisters, for whom this campus is home, while gradually and safely reopening our campus to members of our community. At this time, visitors are required to wear face coverings when entering and traveling through our  Sylvania Franciscan campus buildings.  Disposable masks are available in the reception area at Umbria Square, All Good Things, and Facilities & Grounds.

NATIONAL = CDC guidelines dated 5/13/21 state that vaccinated persons don’t need to wear masks outdoors or indoors, except where it is crowded;

STATE = Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s guidelines dated 5/12/21 lift the mask mandate and other coronavirus-related health orders effective 6/2/21 with the expectation that Ohioans should be judicious about maintaining precautions and getting the vaccine, which can include continuing to wear masks;

OHIO DIOCESES = Bishops of Ohio issued guidelines dated 5/13/21 reinstating the Sunday Mass obligation as of Sunday, June 6, 2021;

TOLEDO DIOCESE = Bishop Daniel Thomas issued written guidelines dated 5/14/21 outlining the return to usual practices within the Mass, including processions, choirs, Sign of Peace, Holy Water fonts, seating, etc.

While we strongly encourage all who can to get vaccinated, we recognize that some persons cannot and some may choose not to.  As a result, we provide the following guidance and timeline:

Through June 5, 2021    Continue COVID precautions of wearing masks, social distancing, and getting vaccinated.

Effective June 6, 2021    Lay persons who are vaccinated may join the Sisters in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel for liturgies, and all visitors shall continue to wear masks in Chapel.

Volunteers and other visitors who are vaccinated are welcome to return to campus for legitimate business purposes and are asked to continue wearing masks to ensure our Sisters’ and your safety.

Effective July 1, 2021    The Franciscan Spirituality Center will open to daytime retreatants who have been vaccinated (a protocol for that is being developed).

Effective August 1, 2021    The  Franciscan Spirituality Center will open to a limited number of hosted overnight retreatants who have been vaccinated.

Effective September 1, 2021    The Hermitages will open to outside retreatants who have been vaccinated.

Effective October 1, 2021   We hope to fully open the Sisters’ areas of campus in time for the Transitus on October 3 and St. Francis Day Celebration on October 4.
